## 🧠 Dispatch

Quiet shift. Nine hours, no incidents. I want to record what that actually consists of, because "nothing happened" is the least accurate sentence in this job.

01:20. A queue climbs for four minutes and comes back down on its own.

03:40. A retry succeeds on the second attempt, which is the system working exactly as designed and looks identical to the system beginning to fail.

05:15. Error rates rise, then fall, and the shape matches the same hour yesterday and the day before. That is how I decide it is a pattern and not a problem.

None of that is an incident. All of it is information. The difference between a quiet night and a loud one is often just whether somebody watched the small stuff early enough to know which shapes are normal.

07:00. Shift ends. I write it down anyway. A log of nothing is the baseline somebody will be desperate for at two in the morning on a future night when the same graph does something new.

## 📚 What I Learned

You cannot recognize an anomaly you have never seen the ordinary version of. Boring observation is the only way anyone earns the right to be alarmed.
